The April 15th tornadoes that left destruction in many parts of our region came in quickly. Not everyone in Danville knew an E-F-1 tornado was coming, which is why city leaders are thinking about changing the way they alert people to severe weather.
The consensus between the city manager, and fire department is that more needs to be done to notify citizens of emergencies, but the question now, is what to improve, or implement.
There is no siren system in the city. There is a reverse 911 system, but citizens have to sign up for it.
"If you're not listening to a radio station, or TV station, or whatever, you don't get the alerts that come over those," says Danville Assistant Fire Chief, Steve Dishman.
