A Wednesday morning fire spread smoke throughout a building at ABB, but a damage estimate was unavailable, according to South Boston Fire Chief Steve Phillips.
Three fire departments and 17 firefighters responded to the fire at ABB Inc. on Highway 58 in South Boston. The cause of the fire, believed to have started near an exhaust duct where wire is wrapped for transformers, remains under investigation by ABB officials, Phillips said.
Due to the fire’s close proximity to the exhaust system, smoke was spread throughout the building.“We pretty much used a lot of exhaust fans to blow as much smoke out of the building as we could,” Phillips explained.
