An apartment fire early Monday morning on Main Street sent three people to the hospital.
The blaze was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m., Stephens City Fire Marshal Steve Ritter said. When firefighters arrived at the building at 5317 Main St., they found the back of the two-story structure engulfed in flames. The building has a self-service laundromat on the ground floor.
Firefighters used a ladder to rescue a 30-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who were trapped on the top floor. They were taken to Winchester Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, then transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s burn unit in Washington, D.C.
Ritter did not know the extent of their injuries. “I’m not sure what their condition is at this time,” he said on Monday afternoon.
