Firefighters were able to keep a residential fire from spreading, but smoke damage from it still forced seven people out of their Suffolk duplex. According to Suffolk Fire and Rescue, emergency dispatch received a call about a residential fire shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, in the 400 block of Culloden Street. Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the rear first floor of the two-story home. All occupants had gotten out safely prior to their arrival. The fire was brought under control by 5:26 and no injuries were reported. The fire was contained to the floor where it originated, but there was smoke damage throughout both units of the duplex. As a result, seven adults were displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
