The recently filed petition calling for a village-wide vote to restore fire department funds has the sufficient number of signatures, confirmed Municipal Manager Shane O’Keefe on Wednesday.
Additional resident signatures were filed Wednesday afternoon, prior to the deadline, by the sponsor of the petition, Therese Catani Brock. Needing 94 resident signatures, the petition contains 105 valid signatures to date.
The petition, initially filed last Friday, requests a special meeting for village voters to decide whether to raise $165,533.77 in funds, by taxes, to fund the four firefighter positions that were eliminated by trustees from the village’s 2018 budget following a vote by village residents to cut the budget in July. If approved, the firefighters, whose positions end on Dec. 11, would continue through the current fiscal year, ending July 1, 2018.
