A woman and her 2-year-old son were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after sustaining burns in a fire at a mobile home park on Rocky Point. Firefighters from Bremerton and South Kitsap Fire and Rescue were called to the blaze at about 10 a.m. at the Rocky Point Mobile Home Park. Neighbors said that the single-wide trailer was quickly engulfed in flames and that the woman evacuated with her son, then tried to recover belongings and fight the fire with a garden hose before the heat grew too strong. The woman and child were taken to Harrison Medical Center for treatment. South Kitsap Fire Lt. Jeff Miller said at least 18 firefighters were on scene, with the Bremerton Fire Department arriving first. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the county Fire Marshal's Office. Miller said firefighters put down the blaze relatively quickly, but the fire left the residence a charred, melted hulk. Neighbor David Wilson said he was having his morning coffee when he saw the smoke and flames, which quickly overtook the residence. "All of a sudden, poof!" he said. Wilson and multiple other neighbors helped the woman, giving her and the boy first aid and persuading her to get away from the fire. Wilson said the woman and boy had blistering at various places on their bodies.
