Nobody was seriously injured in a Tuesday night apartment fire in Federal Way, but firefighters did have to rescue two residents trapped in a third floor apartment. Dispatchers began getting 911 calls at about 9:15 p.m. about a fire at the Crosspoint Apartments in the 35800 block 16th Ave South in Federal Way. When fire crews arrived moments later, they found smoke pouring out of a stairwell in the three-story apartment, according to Chuck Kahler with South King Fire and Rescue. The fire appeared to be coming from an apartment on the second floor, and crews soon spotted two people stranded on the balcony of a third floor unit. The firefighters used a ladder to bring the two residents down to safety, Kahler said. Nobody was seriously injured in the fire, which was contained to a single unit and quickly extinguished. Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
