An Everett family of four escaped with their lives minutes after their home burst into flames just after midnight Thursday.
The family was able to flee through the back of the house as a series of explosions reverberated through the burning home, shattering the calm of the normally quiet neighborhood.
Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 4300 block of Forest Drive, at about 12:20 a.m. after receiving a report of of flames and smoke belching from the home.
By the time crews extinguished the flames, the house and garage were completely destroyed, along with a car parked in the garage.
The Everett fire marshal told KOMO News that fire crews also heard explosions, but they haven't determined the source. However, they did find a number of aerosol cans and a propane tank in the garage, which they were able to cap.
The Red Cross was called in to help find the displaced family somewhere to stay in the fire's aftermath.
