Firefighters continue to fight the Range 12 Fire which started in Yakima and Grant County, then moved into Benton County, but things are coming along and many crews are being sent elsewhere.
About half of the firefighters were sent home on Wednesday but others were demobilized and sent to other wildfires where more resources were needed.
"Right now we're waiting on our next assignment," said firefighter Scott Brewer on Wednesday as he sat in the cafeteria at Kiona Benton High School in Benton City.
Chris Brandon and Scott Brewer have been fighting the Range 12 Fire for three days.
"It's a lot of hardwork a lot of, you're dirty a lot---long hours, camp food, not your normal home-cooked meals," said firefighter Chris Brandon as he sat also waiting for reassingment.
With hundreds of other firefighters they have been away from home, doing what they can to keep everyone safe.
"We're getting up about 4:45--5 a.m. and getting our equipment ready for the day," said Brewer.
Brandon and Brewer have been firefighters for years, so they know what life is like during wildfire season.
Waiting is not uncommon.
