One person is dead and evacuations are under way in Central Washington after a fiery crash between a car and a tanker truck unleashed a dangerous toxic chemical leak, the Washington State Patrol reports. A 22-mile stretch of Interstate 90 is closed in both directions near the scene. Residents up to a mile away from the crash scene were warned to close their windows and turn off the air-conditioning for protection from the fumes. State troopers and firefighters rushed to the scene, in the westbound lanes of the freeway about a mile east of Cle Elum, at about 8:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash. WSDOT reports 5 p.m. as a rough estimate of when they will re-open the roadway.
