A wind-driven wildfire that threatened six structures north of Orondo Thursday is now 250 acres, and 30 percent contained, a fire spokesman said. The Foothills Fire quickly went from a three-alarm blaze to one that secured state mobilization, managed by a multi-agency Type 3 team, with access to resources from around the state, said fire spokesman Randall Rishe. No structures were lost, and there were no injuries, he said. Cause of the fire, which started on the east side of Highway 97, 13 miles north of Orondo at mile post 228, is still under investigation, he said. On Thursday, two fixed-wing aircraft and two helicopters helped forces on the ground. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office issued eight Level 1 and 2 evacuations notices in the Browns Canyon area, letting residents know there was fire in the area, and warning some to be ready to leave. Six structures are still threatened. The sheriff’s office also used its AlertSense system for the first time, to send warnings to people in the area, Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said.
