Brett Bastian is the new chief for the Moses Lake Fire Department. Bastian has served as acting fire chief since November of 2015 after former Chief Tom Taylor retired. “During this time-period, Chief Bastian has successfully guided the department through a period of significant operational and organizational growth and transparency in leadership,” City Manage John Williams stated. “After working with him for the last several months, Chief Bastian has proven himself as a capable leader and has demonstrated the vision to move the department forward.” Bastian’s first official day as chief was on Monday. Bastian started his fire service career in 1984 with training in shipboard and aircraft firefighting in the U.S. Marine Corps and as a volunteer firefighter with the Havelock, N.C., Fire Department. He served seven years active duty in the Marines and seven more years in the U.S. Army Reserve. Bastian began with the Moses Lake Fire Department in 1992 as a fire inspector and served several positions, including fire marshal, assistant fire chief and acting fire chief.
