Due to firefighters' quick action a fire at the Veterans Memorial Golf Course Wednesday was put out and prevented from spreading. Firefighters said they responded to a report of a fire around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at the golf course. The fire started in a 100-foot by 50-foot pile of debris near the 14th tee according to crews. The pile consisted of tree limbs and debris that had accumulated at the course from maintenance according to firefighters. Fire District 4 and 8 responded to the call and crews were able to contain the blaze in 30 minutes said authorities. Firefighters said dry brush surrounds the pile of tree limbs and debris, and crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the brush. Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
