King County Sheriff's detectives and Newcastle police are investigating after a man's body was recovered from a car that plunged into a retention pond in Newcastle on Sunday morning. Investigators said the car plowed through a chain-link fence, over a wall and into the stormwater retention pond near 150th Place SE and SE 80th Street. It's in The Reserve neighborhood near Cougar Mountain Park. The car landed upside down in several feet of water. The impact was so loud, one neighbor and his wife could hear it from inside their home. "We heard a loud boom. We thought maybe something crashed inside our house or into our house," said Andrew Ferencz.
