Fire crews have nearly fully contained the fire that started along Tule Road and U.S 97 Sunday. "We saw this one start creeping down you know turned around...and the wind shifted coming towards us," said Rick and Suzy Gwinn. The Gwinns have only been living in their home for about a year and Sunday night's fire that started near Tule Road and U.S. Highway 97 almost destroyed it. They, along with people from nearly a dozen homes, were evacuated while firefighters battled the blaze into Monday morning. "This Tule Road that stretches from Plank Road to [U.S. Highway] 97 all of the sudden has become a hot spot for some reason," said Yakima County Fire District 5 Captain Joel Byam. Fire leaders say about 6500 acres have burned, but help from helicopters and fire retardant air tankers prevented it from spreading. Crews from Fire District 5 will be working with state management teams over the next few days to plan what comes next.
