During the August Primary Election, voters in Monroe Fire District 3 approved merging with Snohomish County Fire District 7 by almost 81 percent. Merging two fire agencies involves several steps. To that end Fire District 7 officials have released the following new information to insure that residents of both communities know and understand what the process is moving forward. Emergency Services – The most important thing to know is that emergency services will continue at the same level and quality as before. The merger eventually will improve firefighter training and Fire District 7’s ability to respond to large-scale emergencies, all of which translate to better service for the public. Finalizing the Merger – Election results were certified by Washington State on August 16. The next step is for the Boards of Fire Commissioners of both fire districts to finalize the merger at an upcoming meeting before October 1. Governance – Effective October 1, 2016 both boards will represent and serve as fire commissioners for the new Fire District 7. Through the election process, the number of fire commissioners will be reduced to five. Any resident who lives in former Fire District 3 or Fire District 7 can run for these positions.
