A Benton Fire District 1 support vehicle was heavily damaged Sunday when it was hit by an SUV while on its way to a collision scene, authorities said.
Battalion Chief Donald J. Taylor was driving the truck, a 1999 Ford F250, which was marked and had its siren on and lights flashing, authorities said.
Taylor was taken to Trios Southridge Hospital in Kennewick, where he was treated and later released.
A 7-year-old passenger in the SUV also was taken to the hospital. Like Taylor, the boy — Joey Simmions of Great Falls, Mont. — was treated and later released.
The wreck happened at 11:42 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 395 and West 27th Avenue in Kennewick.
Taylor was headed west on 27th, approaching the highway, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The SUV, a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Edward A. Clemens, 51, of Great Falls, was headed north on the highway, troopers said.
The Tahoe hit the fire vehicle in the intersection, troopers said.
Clemens wasn’t hurt.
The wreck is under investigation.
