Financial help is on the way to help fight a wildfire that has burned nearly 500 acres near Leavenworth in Chelan County. On Monday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) authorized the use of federal funds to go towards the firefighting costs of the so-called Suncrest Fire. FEMA said the fire threatens to cause a major diaster, but cooler weather helped firefighters make progress on Monday. The fire, which broke out on Saturday near the town of Peshasin, is now 35 percent contained. Officials said Monday the fire is moving away north away from homes, but about 100 residences are still under mandatory evacuation orders. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
