More than a week after the Spokane Complex Fire began, firefighters have the blaze almost completely contained.
Monday morning, crews announced both parts of the wildfire – Wellesley and Yale Road – were essentially completely contained. The Wellesley Fire is 100 percent contained and the Yale Fire is 99 percent contained, up 4 percent from Sunday. The Wellesley Fire began Aug. 21 and burned at least 300 acres. Officials said the fire destroyed two homes, as well as five to 10 outbuildings. The fire threatened homes, power lines, crops and timber.
The second part of the Spokane Complex Fire, the Yale Road Fire, originated in Spangle and burned around 5,800 acres. The blaze destroyed at least 10 homes and forced evacuations from a large area.
