Fire crews expect to fully contain the Suncrest Fire today and transition management of the 390-acre fire back to local units Thursday. “It’s looking really good out there,” said Jeff Bouschor, assistant operations chief for the Type 2 national fire team now managing the fire. Bouschor said ground crews would work today to secure the edges of the fire, mop up hot spots and do some clearing and erosion management before heading out Thursday. The fire was 75 percent contained as of Tuesday night. About 370 firefighters are working the fire. Bouschor said the fire was still creeping and smoldering in spots but posed no threats to jump fire lines. With cooler weather and the potential for rain through the rest of the week, the fire no longer is a threat to about 100 homes that were evacuated since the fire broke out Saturday afternoon. Evacuation levels were dropped from Level 3 to Level 2 Tuesday. Bouschor said evacuation notices for the entire North Road area would probably be dropped again today to Level 1, the lowest warning urging residents to be prepared for possible evacuation.
