Camano Island Fire and Rescue’s board of commissioners recently approved a strategic plan update that guides fire and EMS services on Camano for the next 10 years. The crux of the plan is to be “smaller and faster,” Chief Michael Schick said. Not a smaller force, but a force that’s organized to be nimble, efficient and cost-effective. In part, these changes are necessitated by money. CIFR’s latest levy was adopted at $1.25 per $1,000 of assessed value (AV). Like all revenue, though, CIFR’s is capped at a 1-percent increase per year.
