A construction worker was killed Tuesday when a trench gave way as he was working in it, Seattle fire officials said.
Firefighters and medics responded to the scene, at 36th Avenue and SW Hanford Street, at about 10:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a person trapped face-down in a trench.
Fire crews worked quickly to free the man, but he died before he could be rescued. Efforts continue to recover his body.
A fire official at the scene said workers were replacing a sewer line when trench gave way.
