Emergency responders were on the scene of a two car crash that injured five people in Deer Park at Highway 395 and Crawford Road for several hours Wednesday.
Capt. Megan Hill of Spokane County Fire District 4 said the crash happened just after 3 p.m.
Washington State Patrol said Nikita Lesnykh, 20, of Medical Lake was driving his Toyota Corolla northbound on the highway. As he approached Crawford, Lesnykh made a u-turn in front of a pickup truck. The truck hit the car, sending the Toyota into a ditch where it landed on its top.
WSP said Lesnykh and a 16-year-old female passenger were taken to the hospital via ambulance. Two children, ages 10 and 6, were airlifted from the scene via Medstar with life threatening injuries. Lesnykh was released from the hospital Wednesday night.
“If we do Medstar, it’s pretty serious,” Hill said.
The driver of the pickup was also taken to the hospital. WSP said he was conscious and talking at the scene.
Hill said the road can be dangerous.
“It’s kind of narrow. It’s getting dark kind of early. If there are two cars right behind each other, you can’t see the second car,” she said. “It’s a very busy [road] and for how busy it is, it’s not very big.”
