A large fire that sent flames shooting through the roof of a Mercer Island home Tuesday night likely started in the attic, firefighters said. A neighbor first spotted the fire at 7200 West Ridge Road and called 911, according to the Mercer Island Fire Department. The family wasn't home when the fire started, and firefighters were able to rescue a dog inside the house. The home's sprinkler system helped keep the fire from spreading, but the roof was heavily damaged, firefighters aid. The exact cause of the fire and extent of the damage isn't known.
