A mobile home erupted in flames Wednesday afternoon, and fire investigators fear it might have claimed a life. A neighbor called 911 to report in the fire in the 29600 block of 142nd Ave. SE. Firefighters arrived to find large flames and billowing smoke from the double-wide mobile home. Their firefight was hampered by the fact that the home was at the end of a long driveway with no close fire hydrants. Instead, teams from Valley Regional Fire Authority and Kent Regional Fire Authority had to use water from tanks of several fire engines and tenders. Cmdr. Steve Stocker with Auburn Police said later Wednesday that the homeowner is missing and they fear they might have been inside when the fire began and didn't make it out. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and went to a local hospital for an evaluation. Investigators are still looking into what started the fire.
