Firefighters responded to the report of an apartment fire around 12:15 a.m. Saturday at 818 9th Avenue. Crews arrived and found three cars ablaze with flames spreading to the second floor of the building. Residents were evacuated and crews quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters remained on scene for about two hours while investigating the incident and checking for fire that may have spread into the apartments. Officials say the fire was ultimately confined to three cars and the exterior of the apartment. About 25 people were displaced because of damage to the building's main electrical supply. Red Cross provided three families with emergency shelter at area hotels. Officials say the building's owner hopes to repair the electrical damage and allow some of the residents to return later today.
