New information about Clarkston firefighters and your public safety. The mayor and city council has decided they'll keep shifts fully staffed, but this decision didn't come without emotional pleas from the public. "People have voted over and over and over again to have this... These men are fine men, they do a wonderful job," said resident. Clarkston residents stood before city council... "This doesn't appear to be the time to understaff the departments," said resident. And voiced their concerns. "I think the money we pay on their salaries is the best money the city can spend," said resident. Clarkston firefighter wife Holly Tietz made an emotional plea about how a decision to do away with two full-time firefighter positions could potentially put lives at risk. "I'm going to get down to the reality of what happens when you cut two positions," said Tietz. "In 2015 medic 82 responded to 280 calls and medic 83 responded to 25 calls." Meaning there were 25 times that two simultaneous calls were responded to. "That means that 230 residents or visitors of Clarkston did not have to wait for stand-by to get to the station before they could receive potentially live saving care," said Tietz.
