Washington has had 226 wildfires as of Thursday and more than half of them were in Eastern Washington.
Firefighters are expecting well over 300 wildfires in just six counties this fire season.
"The predictions right now are that we will have a 'normal' fire season," said Guy Gifford with the Department of Natural Resources.
While firefighters train and prepare for just about anything, many agree, normal seems to be changing in Washington.
"The fires are becoming more intense. The fires are getting larger, and they're certainly more complex," said Cody Rohrbach with DNR.
The last two years were anything but average. From the Carlton Complex in 2014, to the dozens of wildfires that broke out in the summer of 2015, many at the same time. Hundreds of homes were destroyed and more than a million acres burned. It stretched state and local resources beyond their limit.
