The Seattle Fire Department is investigating an early morning blaze that destroyed a house under construction on Capitol Hill and caused serious damage to a neighboring house. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to another adjacent house, said spokeswoman Corey Orvold. No one was injured and the house under construction was not occupied. The fire was reported at 4:14 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of 20th Avenue East, she said. By the time the first engine arrived, the house under construction was engulfed. “It was a pretty intense fire,” she said. Matt Monda, who lives across the street, said he called 911 after being awakened by his daughters. He also alerted the residents of a house next door to the construction site. “It was really loud,” Monda said. “It was like the sound of a bonfire magnified by a thousand.” The neighboring house that was seriously damaged is not livable, Orvold said. Firefighters will help the residents move out some of their belongings, she added.
