Voters overwhelmingly approved an $11 million, 20-year bond that Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue will use to build two new fire stations and buy a new fire engine.
The money will be used to replace the crumbling Lexington station and the earthquake-vulnerable Baker’s Corner station in West Longview. The bond got a 66 percent “yes” vote in Tuesday’s general election.
“It’s humbling,” LaFave said. “(The firefighters) are excited. They worked hard. All of us, our main thing was giving people a chance to decide. It’s their fire department. We just wanted the citizens to have a chance to decide, and we’ll move forward with whatever their will was. We’re all excited.”
