A woman helping a child involved in a suspected DUI car crash was hit and killed Saturday night.
The woman pulled over to help the child as she was passing the accident scene, Washington State Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Francis said.
The girl, 9, was riding in a pick-up truck when the driver smashed into a guard rail on Highway 530 approximately 3 miles east of Arlington.
Investigators believe the driver of the truck had been drinking, they said.
A car hit the woman and the girl from behind as they were walking away from the crash site.
The woman, later identified as 46-year-old Trina Morgan of Darrington, died on scene, Francis said. The girl suffered an injury to her ankle, he added.
