After a monthslong investigation, Bothell officials said Thursday the cause of the massive fire that swept through the city’s downtown in July is undetermined.
Due to the extensive damage, investigators could not pinpoint an exact area where the fire originated in the historic Mercantile Building, according to a city news release. That release comes after officials received a report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which helped investigate.
The fire “completely consumed the wooden part” of the Mercantile Building, destroying all potential evidence, according to the release. The investigation, however, remains open and can change with new evidence, the release says.
