The Kennewick Police Department is investigating a body found in a burning vehicle at Columbia Park around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Officials say the call came in from drivers on highway spotting smoke from a small dodge truck near the pond at Columbia Park. When firefighters arrived, they quickly put out the fire and a body was discovered inside the vehicle. The area was blocked off to the public so detectives can GPS map the area and conduct a thorough investigation. Sgt. Matt Newton with Kennewick Police says the cause of death is not known at this time and they are not ruling out any possibilities. Police say they were able to confirm who the owner registered to the vehicle is, but they do not know the identity of the person inside the truck. They cannot say whether the body is the owner of the vehicle.
