The Eglon Improvement Club appears poised to reclaim a piece of property it gave away in the 1960s. The half-acre parcel along Eglon Road is currently owned by North Kitsap Fire and Rescue, and is the site of a small building that was used as a fire station until 2012. Eglon is located on the eastern shore of the Kitsap peninsula, about halfway between Kingston and Hansville. The club started proceedings in Kitsap County Superior Court on Sept. 20, seeking to reclaim the property from NKFR. According to court documents, the club donated the land to the Hansville Eglon Fire Department — a predecessor to NKFR — in 1967 so that a firehouse would be built to improve emergency response times. According to the club, the two parties agreed that the department would deed the property back to the club if it ceased to use it as a fire station. While the 1967 property transfer deed does not specify any such condition in writing, several Eglon residents have stated in court affidavits that the two sides had agreed to the terms.
