An abandoned two-story commercial building being used by transients was destroyed by flames overnight in Kent.
Firefighters responded to the building, in the 200 block of East Morton Street, after receiving reports of smoke and flames there, said Capt. Kyle Ohashi of the Kent Regional Fire Authority.
When crews arrived on scene, the building was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was fought from the outside due to the amount of fire damage and possibility of collapse, Ohashi said.
There were no reports of injuries and no one was found near the structure.
Osahi says the building was previously occupied by a roofing business. After the business moved out, homeless transients moved in.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined. Fire investigators will not be able to enter the building due to the amount of damage, Ohashi said.
