This weekend brings Snohomish County Fire District 7’s Fire Prevention Week open house, a free, family-friendly event held every year in Monroe.
The 2016 open house takes place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Monroe’s Station 31, 163 Village Court. It is being held in conjunction with the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Fire Prevention Week, a fire safety awareness campaign. For the last three years, the NFPA has engaged in a nationwide effort to educate the public about the importance of smoke alarms, based on data collected during a NFPA survey that identified many public misconceptions about the white, ceiling-mounted disks.
Last year’s theme was “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep,” a slogan developed by the NFPA to relay the importance of having a working smoke detector in every bedroom of the house. This year’s theme is “Don’t Wait — Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years.”
