The 39-year-old driver of a semi-truck was killed when his big rig hauling a trailer overturned in the express lanes underneath Interstate 5 Thursday night, according to the Washington State Patrol. The express lanes on I-5 were reopened just after 7 a.m. The patrol identified the driver as Varinder Deol of Abbotsford, B.C. The crash happened just before 11:00 p.m. in the lanes heading northbound near Mercer Street. A second person was taken to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries. Police said the person was underneath the freeway, and witnesses said the injured person may have been part of a nearby homeless encampment.
