A woman was injured when a Vancouver Fire Department fire engine crashed into a minivan in east Vancouver this morning.
Firefighters were heading north on Southeast 162nd Avenue about 8:30 a.m., returning from a commercial fire, when a minivan van spun into their path near Northeast 7th Street, Vancouver Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Steele said.
The minivan, which was traveling south, was clipped and spun into the engine’s path, Vancouver Police Officer Bill O’Meara said.
Steele said the crew on board didn’t have time to avoid the collision.
“Our guys are pretty shook up,” Steele said. “We’re not supposed to hurt people, we’re supposed to help people.”
The woman was unconscious and had to be cut out of the vehicle, Steele said.
