Port Ludlow Fire &Rescue has a new $225,000 ambulance.
The ambulance from Horton Emergency Vehicles arrived on Tuesday, according to fire district officials in a news release.
The purchase allows the district to rotate current units into reserve, reducing the mileage and wear on the other units and extending the life cycle of those units, officials said.
The new ambulance replaces the 2009 Ford E-Series unit that has already accrued nearly 112,000 miles.
The chassis is an International TerraStar chassis, which is a commercial truck chassis and has the capability to outlast the van chassis by nearly 2 to 1, they said.
Seventy percent of the funds for the purchase of the unit came from the sale of surplus apparatus, with the remainder from the district’s emergency medical services fund, officials said, adding that they are planning for future unit replacements because all have mileage above 100,000 miles.
Port Ludlow Fire &Rescue, which covers 55 square miles, has responded to 437 emergency medical calls so far this year.
