Fire burning near Elmer City, Grand Coulee 40 percent contained

Grant County fire officials said crews are responding to the 230 Yard Fire burning on the east side of the Columbia river near Elmer City and Grand Coulee. Officials said the fire has burned 500 acres and is 40 percent contained as of Monday morning. State fire mobilization was approved on Sunday night. Officials said school is canceled on Monday for Lake Roosevelt High school, Junior High School and elementary. School is also canceled for all schools in the Nespelem School District. Level one evacuations were lifted Monday morning. No structures have been lost in the fire. Power lines to and from the dam are a priority to protect for fire crews. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
