Local Keith Taylor, a battalion chief for the Marysville Fire District, had the honor of singing the national anthem for the Seattle Seahawks' opening game on Sept. 11. He was joined by many other Marysville firefighters who participated in the flag ceremony in the opening ceremonies of the Seahawks' first regular season game of the year. "It's a huge deal to represent the City of Marysville and the Fire District in this way," he said. "For the home opener on 9/11? That's huge. I don't know if it gets any better than that," he said. Taylor has been singing the national anthem in front of crowds for about nine years now and got his start on Sept. 11, 2006. The Seattle Mariners were looking for a local firefighter to honor the anniversary of 9/11 and Taylor was selected for the performance. Taylor is also an Air Force veteran who served during the Persian Gulf War. "I was prompted by a captain at the District to apply for it," he said. After sending in his demo tape he was selected and "they've been asking me back ever since." In addition to opening a couple of Seattle Mariners games every year Taylor has opened for other local events like an Everett Silvertips game.
