A rekindled fire on private Washington land overtook a structure Monday and caused dozens of homes to be evacuated.
The fire was first reported around 2 p.m. near 407 Old Hwy 8 in Klickitat County. It quickly spread west and south towards Hwy 14 in Sundale, county officials said.
Over 3,000 acres reportedly burned by 6:30 p.m.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered for 20-30 residences between Old Hwy 8 and Newell Road. At least one home was destroyed in the fire, officials said.
A shelter is set up for evacuees at Fathers House Fellowship, 207 S Klickitat Avenue in Goldendale, Washington. Call the Red Cross at 888.680.1455 for more information.
The fire is reportedly threatening crops, infrastructure, timber and homes.
Motorists in the area may want to avoid Hwy 14 and use I-84 in Oregon, officials said.
