After two years of negotiations between the Clarkston Fire Department and the City of Clarkston, a new contract is finally in place. KLEW News Reporter Alex Crescenti spoke with both sides and joins us in-studio with new information. A representative from the Clarkston Firefighters Union and city officials both tell me they are pleased with this outcome. Firefighters haven’t had a contract since January of 2015. Now, they’ll get a three-percent wage increase for 2015, and 2016. They’ll also get raises in 2017 and 2018. Mayor Monika Lawrence says this is a good start, and the union agrees. “It's wonderful that we have an agreement finally, it's been a long time in coming,” said Mayor Lawrence. “Really hopefully the best thing is to regain positive relations between the two departments and continue moving forward from there,” said Jared Lutes, Clarkston Fire Dept. The city council voted unanimously for the contract. The pay will also be retroactive.
