The 1,383-acre Rock Creek Fire northwest of Naches is 80 percent contained, and the multi-agency Northwest Incident Response Team coordinating the firefighting is preparing to hand things over to local personnel.
Fire behavior was minimal Saturday as crews worked to mop up hotspots along containment lines, according to a news release from the response team this morning.
That work will continue today, the release said, but "will be transitioning to a local Type 3 team Monday morning at 6 a.m."
The cause of the fire, about 12 miles northwest of Naches, remains unknown. It began the evening of Sept. 10 and grew steadily until cooler weather gave firefighters a break this weekend.
