Two emergency responders were evaluated at the hospital Wednesday evening after responding to a suicide attempt at a Longview apartment. Longview Fire Engine 81 was called out to 1705 Hemlock Street about 4:40 p.m. on reports that someone had been posting suicidal messages on Facebook. The person who called 9-1-1 said they managed to get ahold of the person by cell phone, but they sounded unintelligible. A Longview Police officer was first on-scene and was hit with a strong odor and difficulties breathing after entering the apartment. Firefighters arrived two minutes later with breathing masks, and found a hand-written warning on the bathroom door that said “Caution CO2.” Inside the bathroom they found a semi-conscious person lying on the floor. The person was taken to St. John Medical Center in critical condition.
