Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters rescued a family dog before flames destroyed most of a tri-level home in Algona on Tuesday. A neighbor called at 11:15 a.m. to report smoke and fire coming from the rear of the home in the 400 block of 4th Avenue South. Fortunately, none of the six residents were inside at the time of the fire. Algona Police Officer Anthony D’Angelo arrived first on the scene, kicked in the door of the approximately 2,000-square-foot home and searched for any residents. He found no one before heat and smoke forced him out of the home.
