At 2:24 p.m. crews from Orcas Island Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle fire on Mount Constitution. Units arrived on scene at 2:35 p.m. to find a Ford F-350 work truck fully engulfed. Shortly after arriving on scene, the fuel tank in the truck exploded and accelerant flame was coming from the rear. Three fire apparatus and one medical crew were on scene and the fire was put out within approximately ten minutes. The vehicle had been parked underneath a large grouping of trees. Tree branches and bark were scarred, but due to quick action from crews on scene, they did not ignite. The occupants of the vehicle escaped without injury. All fire personnel were safely cleared from the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is believed to be mechanical.
