Near Mabton, south of Yakima, the Glade 3 fire began Sunday night and quickly spread to 10,000 acres. The State Department of Natural Resources on Monday increased the fire danger rating to high in parts of Northwest Washington and restricted campfires on land protected by the agency. According to a DNR news release, "as of midnight tonight, campfires in San Juan, Island, Whatcom, Skagit, and Snohomish counties will only be allowed in campgrounds with approved fire pits and onsite camp hosts. As a result, campfires will be illegal in DNR campgrounds, within these counties, until further notice." The National Park Service announced a ban on campfires in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and the area of North Cascades National Park located in Chelan County.
