Edmonds’ renewal of a five-year contract with Fire District 1, approved in December, will remain the same after voters in Lynnwood and Fire District 1 service areas approved the creation and funding of the South Snohomish County Fire and Rescue Regional Fire Authority.
The measure passed with 54 percent of the vote during the recent primary.
Edmonds voters had no say in the election, as only voters within the boundaries of the fire district were eligible. Edmonds, Brier and Mountlake Terrace do not fall within the boundaries of the fire district, so residents in these cities do not vote on measures affecting them, and do not vote for fire district commissioners.
Edmonds receives services from Fire District 1 under contracts negotiated by its city leaders and approved by the City Council.
