A brush fire in Orting that started Tuesday night threatened homes and continues to burn Wednesday morning. It started at about 9:30 p.m. and burned more than five acres 3.5 miles southwest of South Prairie off Pioneer Way East. About 60 firefighters from multiple fire departments worked to put out the flames as the fire burned up a slope, coming about 100 feet from homes. Two homes were evacuated as a precaution. Crews were able to deploy hose lines to protect the houses. Firefighters remain at the scene and the Washington Department of Natural Resources was called to the location.
